1. How to register with a GP

Register with a GP to access healthcare. For emergencies, call 112 or 155.

  1. Find an English-speaking GP via expat websites or recommendations.
  2. Prepare documents: Czech or private health insurance card and proof of residence.
  3. Contact the GP to schedule an appointment and confirm they accept new patients.
  4. Fill out registration forms during your first visit and sign the registration.

Costs: Public health insurance covers most costs. Private consultations range from 500 CZK to 2,000 CZK.

Language Tips: Many doctors speak English. Useful phrases:

“Jsem nemocný/á” (I am sick)

“Potřebuji lékaře” (I need a doctor)

MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT

2. Mental Health Support

Steps: Start with your GP for a referral or find private therapists who speak English. Crisis helplines are available: 116 123.

Costs: Covered by public health insurance or private sessions range from 800 CZK to 2,500 CZK.

Language Tips: Many therapists speak English. Useful phrases:

“Mám problémy se stresem” (I have stress problems)

“Potřebuji pomoc s úzkostí” (I need help with anxiety)

3. Legal & Social Assistance

Steps: Access legal services and social support through local government or expat organizations.

Costs: Legal consultations typically cost 1,500 CZK–3,500 CZK per hour.

Language Tips: Legal services are available in English. Useful phrase:

“Potřebuji právníka” (I need a lawyer)
